CANVAS SKY INTERACTIVE - A New Workflow Process
Brief History
Canvas Sky Interactive has been doing brilliant web site design and development for over 5 years in the Denver, Colorado area. The firm's success eventually created a problem internally for the Creative and Development teams. They were juggling between five and ten projects (small and large) at once, without any real process in place. Quality assurance, customer service and timelines were in jeopardy.
The Project
We were contracted by Canvas Sky Interactive to evaluate their current process and implement a new project management methodology that could keep the internal teams on track, during any type of project - small or large. After exhausting research, collaboration and brainstorming sessions, we came upon a workflow process that fits perfectly for this small, and extremely busy office. Some of the key components in our new workflow process include:
- New business development, forecasting and reporting
- More thorough discovery phase to be sure we are meeting business goals and user expectations
- Consistent Workflow Process - for all project types
- Time-tracking tools for all staff and sub-contractors
- Pre-production testing and quality assurance on prototypes
- Post-launch meetings with clients to review the project
- Maintenance solutions and training for all clients
End Result
With a solid project managment foundation in place for all projects, Canvas Sky is able to manage each phase of their concurrent projects more efficiently. Project status meetings are more productive, customer communication is more accurate, and deadlines are rarely missed.

B52 BILLIARDS - A Website Project

The Project
B52 Billiards needed a first generation website that would grab a users attention, and convey the same spirit and attitude as the bar itself. The desired action was to have a user visit the website, and then visit the restaurant and billiards hall. The site did not have much content - menus, drinks, and specials - which provided room to create something a bit over the top and show-off the incredible photography of the bar's interior. We developed a flash site that we felt would be remembered and attract users to the bar. Knowing that the bar staff and managers would need to maintain the content (menus, drinks & specials) we developed a maintenance process for them. Almost all the copy on this site resides in easy-to-update text files, which are pulled into the flash animation; allowing for easy and affordable maintenance for the client.
The most impressive factor in this project was the not the end result, but the way we managed the project and the client. Our client had a tight budget and no prior expectation for how their site should look or function. To stay within budget, we cut down on billable hours by shortening the discovery phase and giving them a very limited number of creative rounds, which enabled us to efficiently arrive at a final design.
End Result
A happy client. We continue to provide consulting for this client with web hosting and email issues. B52 Billiards was our first client, remains a client, and continues to bring us new projects through excellent referrals.
